colleges, professional sports teams, Disney, Sanrio, and a multitude of
other providers. I had once been told that some colleges were going to
stop allowing fabrics to be made with their logos and trademarks since
crafters were making items with the fabrics and selling them, but the
school wasn't getting any profits from those items.

I
have recently been asked to make corsets for a local store that are in
Arkansas Razorback fabrics. I was concerned about the possible impacts
as I have known people that have received cease and desist letters from
the University.

Therefore I did a little research. The
university is breaking the law by requesting such a thing, but since
most people don't know that, they are sufficiently intimidated and stop
making the items.

See the manufacturer of licensed
fabrics holds the license to print the fabric but when you buy it in a
store the license isn't transferred and the fabric is effectively sold
with out a license. Legally if the school or entity didn't want things
made for profit with the fabric they should not approve fabric to be
created. They can not control the use of the fabric after it is sold to a
consumer.

Here is the trick you need to be aware of for your listings and tagging...... The Tabberone Disclaimer.

This
simple and sweet disclaimer should be listed in your Etsy, Ebay, or
other listing online. It should not be at the very top or very bottom,
but properly located in the middle so as to not be overlooked or scare
off buyers. It should also be in at least the same font as the rest of
the listing. You don't want to use super small print where it will be
missed, and don't get too carried away with big bold print.

This
of course would be altered as required to accommodate whatever licensed
fabric you are using. Also I have elected to add a second tag to my
clothing items with this same disclaimer so that it is properly
displayed when my items are being sold in stores.

A lot of you have Facebook pages for your businesses, and previously I discussed the promoted post, which can become costly. However, you should also know about the scheduled post! Imagine this, you have worked and slaved for weeks, months, years to get the likes you have on your page. You are working to keep your customers interested in your work and looking at the new things you are producing.

What happens when your customers are worldwide, in different time zones, and they don't see your items in their news feed because you are asleep and not on Facebook?!

TA DA

Enter the scheduled post!

When you go to enter a new status update you have a little clock icon in the bottom left of the status dialog box.

See the pretty little clock?

You can click on that and it will open individual select boxes, one at a time, for the Year, Month, Day, Hour, and Minute. I have all of them open below.

You can use these to schedule posts for maybe once every 2-3 hours, or whatever works best for you. That way the more people following you the more people will see your stuff! This keeps your items, posts, or whatever you are looking for in the main viewing window more frequently for your customers.

There are so many different social media uses, and according to Etsy they can be a BIG help in pushing your items in the marketplace. Sometimes though we may not know how to use them.

Good Luck Team Members, and keep up the good work!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07746065877021279335noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3935614702743076744.post-70868585557683152942012-06-11T03:00:00.000-05:002012-06-11T03:00:04.662-05:00The power of Triberr!I am constantly trying to find special little things that will help us cross promote and increase our customer base!

When I started my own blog I wanted to only blog about sewing, but I found myself talking more and more about all the random things that happened to me and things that I thought needed to be said. Therefore as time has gone on I have blogged about a variety of things, and developed online friends that are also bloggers.

I began to follow these bloggers on Twitter and make more and more contact. I began to notice that every day I would see tweets that gave the name of some blog post, the link to the post and then said "via @twittername". I thought these guys have some sort of financial agreement to do this for each other as a way to cross promote and increase viewership to their individual blogs.

I finally asked one of them what was the deal, and discovered they are not paying each other it is a website called Triberr that once you join the site you join "tribes". The tribes consist of people with like minded things, or not in some cases.

When you join you upload the RSS feed URL for your blog, your Twitter information, and your Facebook information. Then you join the tribes you want to join!

Each morning I log into Tribber and click the "Approve" button for all of my tribe mates blog posts that have uploaded since the day before. I look to see if there are some posts I have already promoted that I would like to promote again and click to send those again.

Then through out the day on a time schedule I give it, Triberr automatically tweets the promotional tweets of my tribemates. So I am active on twitter a lot that it isn't actually me, and all my tribe mates are promoting my blog as well!

It's like multi-level marketing for bloggers and tweeters! Don't worry we won't kick you out if you don't promote the "family".

I have set up a Tribe on Triberr for Sweety Darlin's AREtsy Tribe, and we have two members besides myself at this time. I would love to add more members so that we can start to cross promote daily!

It did take me about an hour of fiddling to get things set up the way I liked it, but that was also because I had to research how to find the RSS code for my blog. Now it is a minute each morning and done!

I have seen increased traffic, not necessarily increased sales, but that is because I haven't been talking about my sewing much lately! Some of the things I have been working on my clients have asked me to keep under wraps until the item makes it's debut. I can live with that.

Look it up and check it out!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07746065877021279335noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3935614702743076744.post-82358294441605011892012-06-01T09:28:00.000-05:002012-06-01T09:28:14.145-05:00Facebook and the Promoted Post!

Some of you may have noticed my facebook status updates and tweets about how there was rumors that facebook would start charging for business to have fan pages etc.

I did some research and have been able to figure out the following information. Keep in mind folks that the internet is a big array of information and if you look long enough you will find information that fits what you want it to say. I have tried to weed through all of it in order to attempt to find the truth.

If you go to your company page and post a status update you may find this new little blue word... "Promote" This is kind of like a facebook ad that gets forced into the feed of the people who "like" your page.

Here is the specifics, when you like the page of a business all of there status updates show in your feed. You can choose to hide those, or unlike the page, or just ignore your information. We all know that we ignore junk that shows up in our feeds. Plus with the new timeline and different ways to view your feed you may not see the status updates of the pages you have "Liked".

So if you choose to promote your status update you will have to pay a fee, and facebook will make sure that your promoted posts are not ignored. It will even make sure that if one of your watchers likes your post that the post may also show up in their friends feeds so that they can like your page too!

The fee is based on a variety of things frequency, etc, etc, etc, but you will pay a fee.

However you can always just keep doing what you are doing, without a fee, and hope that enough of the people that like your page keep watching for your updates.

Saturday the 28th we had a Meet and Greet in Fayetteville. There were a ton of events in the Fayetteville area that day and a lot of our team members were previously engaged, but we were super lucky to have Jewels Under the Sun and Trinkets Too as well as Gingiber in attendence.

Stephanie of Gingiber was a featured seller for Etsy a while back and she was able to talk about how when she was asked by Etsy to attend an event in New York, the team members all knew each other and were very active.

They held events, craft shows, and brainstormed to promote ideas for the team and shops to be better.
It even has gotten her a link placed on the Martha Stewart website. Now I don't know about you, but that counts a a bit of a celebrity!

We all talked about how it would be great to have a craft show totally made up of Etsy members! I would love to do that too!

The consortium family of mom, dad, son, and sister-in-law that is Jewels Under the Sun were the sweetest people! Shane and Stephanie talked about the upcoming roll out of the CSS options on Etsy. I think this means we can have more customized shop pages, but it was way above even my own nerd knowledge!

I also talked with the team from JUSTT about motocycle hair accessories for women, and possible participation in Bikes, Blues, and BBQ and also Babes, Bikes, and Bling! Which in Northwest Arkansas are very large motorcycle enthusiast events!

I think we all left the event feeling encouraged, and I want that to only get bigger and spread through the entire team! We have more than 300 members and I know that there are more Etsy sellers out there that are not in the team.

We want to have a team that helps all of us become highly successful!
I use them for making the garment they are intended for, mixing parts of them with other patterns to create a specific look, and sometimes I don't use them at all.

However I wanted to review a certain pattern that I think is without a doubt one of the best easy breezy summer dresses you could ever have! This is one that can be used as a cover up after the beach, a daytime date, a outing to the park, whatever! It was too easy for words and I thought all of us sewing types might want to know about it.

The pattern is Buttericks 4790. It is in their retro inspired line of patterns. When I first saw the pattern cover I thought that is kind of cute and simple.

Then I do the flip and check out the back.....

You gotta be kidding me! That is IT?!

So I grab a cool plaid that the short ones think is awesome. They didn't have enough to make the entire back, but I have some left over from a previous project that filled that in nicely and the front was just a simple cotton. The entire edge is nothing more than double fold biased tape, and you hem the bottom edge only!

I made one for each of them and they loved them! I have since made the dress in other combinations and they are a staple in the summer, very lightweight and easy to wear. My youngest like a pair of soffee shorts under hers just because it is a wrap dress and in just the right weather can blow up and expose some parts.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07746065877021279335noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3935614702743076744.post-46336622563806756162012-04-17T13:33:00.000-05:002012-04-17T13:33:42.745-05:00Northwest Arkansas Meet & Greet
A Giveaway to Increase Visibility!

Okay I had posted here about the giveaway I participated in that increased my Facebook following so significantly that in four days I went from 74 Likes to 1,500+.

I had a lot of inquiries about the process and it became apparent that I was unclear. However I have now been informed of another giveaway in the Month of May and I want to encourage all my Team Members to involve themselves.

Keep in mind that this is a tool for you to increase your own visibility, but if you win that is great too!

The complete details are HERE! (The link has been removed as sign up is closed)

READ THE INFORMATION COMPLETELY!

The way this works is you follow the very simple rules. Which are...

1. This is FREE to get on the rafflecopter!
2. You MUST have this giveaway shared by your Facebook Fan page between 9:00 p.m. EST, May 3, and 9:00 a.m. EST May 4.
3. You MUST promote this giveaway a total of 9 times on your Facebook Fan page throughout the 3 weeks it is live.
4. This giveaway will run from 9:00 p.m. EST on May 3 through 12:01 a.m. EST on May 24.

The Rafflecopter is the way people enter the contest, and once the contest opens then people must "like" your Facebook page to enter the contest.

Now if you don't follow the rules, the administrators of the contest will remove your information from the contest, and in some cases not allow you to participate in future events.

When people connect to you, they will then see your posts in their feed, and it is only reasonable that it will increase your views and hopefully in turn result in sales.

I entered the first contest trying to win, because I wanted a Kindle Fire. So the entire situation was shocking to me once I learned what I had actually done.

However Etsy tells us that using social media to our advantage is a plus, and if we can find ways to expand our social media footprint then I think that is a great plan!

UPDATE: As soon as I see another opportunity like this I will post it as well. I am very sorry for the short amount of time for signing up, I had no idea they would close it that fast.

GOOD LUCK! Let me know if you have any questions at all!
Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07746065877021279335noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3935614702743076744.post-89995905290179086112012-04-11T14:34:00.000-05:002012-04-12T11:56:08.871-05:00Ways to Grow Your Visibility!

I know that all of us struggle at times with getting people to look at our products, but we all know that if we can generate more traffic our chances of sales go up. I accidentally fell into a way to make this happen, and it has been SHOCKING! Almost too easy for words.

First when I started my blog I read a book by The Simple Dude called Grow Your Blog. It was only $1.99 and it gave me some simple tips and ways that help your blog grow. Now I have seen dramatically increased traffic, but as of yet I haven't gotten to his level of success. I have faith though.

I know not everyone has a blog and it can be a little daunting and confusing to get it all started and set up the way you like it, but if you already have one this may be a good idea. If you are interested in starting a blog, I would be happy to help, and could even do maybe a series of tutorials to help Team Members if you are interested.

Second, I found a contest where they were giving away FOUR Kindle Fires. I know it is somewhat foolish to think that I will get one, but it was also foolish to think I would win the $540 million power ball, but I gave it a $2 try anyway.

Now I had never heard of this site before and didn't know a lot about it, but they have these contests with varying prizes frequently. The trick to them is that they use a company called Rafflecopter, and on of the biggest ways to gain entries into the contest is to "Like" the Facebook pages of participating companies.

I know this can be annoying, but in 24 hours I received an additional 1200+ additional Likes to my Facebook page. I also saw an increase in number of people reached from an average of 60 to a new number of 275!

Here is what you need to think about, when people like your companies page all the items you post on your Facebook go into their News Feed. A ton of people that know nothing about you see your items, and it is only reasonable to think that someone will eventually click on your item.

Third, use some of the opportunities we are cultivating to get your name out there more. I have been asked by the Arkansas Women Bloggers to request donations for some of their events. They are not looking for really expensive items, just things that they can give as door prizes etc.

The benefit to us is that if you donate, they will post your shop information on their website, ask their members to blog about your items, and your information will be included on the flyers that go out with each event. They have a total of 171 members in their directory of women bloggers in the state, and based off their research there are some staggering numbers about how those members can help you as well.

If you are interested in donating for their events, keep an eye on Facebook and Twitter which is where I generally post this information, and if you ever have questions you can contact them directly as well from their site!

Etsy tells us that using social media to our advantage is a highly successful and FREE advertising method. It doesn't matter how you get people to like your page, you just need to get them there. I stumbled into this hopefully highly advantageous event, and wanted to share with my team members.

Good Luck!

UPDATE: As of Thursday the 12th I now have 1,400+ Likes on my Facebook Page and have reached 935 people. Now I was asked by another person about the raffle copter. They only administer the contest, and I agreed to participate PRIOR to the start of the contest, but Acadiana's Thirifty Mom does these frequently. Keep your eyes peeled and if you agree to the terms of the participation, you too can get this kind of a boost. Think of how great that visibility is!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07746065877021279335noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3935614702743076744.post-25718215803923083032012-04-05T10:06:00.000-05:002012-04-05T10:06:14.016-05:00April Featured Seller - LyblyThis month, we are going to feature our captain! Marisa and her shop Lybly!
However we are having some trouble getting good information on craft shows and other vending opportunities.

Come on team! Let's get to posting!

If you are participating in ANY craft show any where in the state, or even just across the lines.

Let us know about it! We want to help our team with as much advertisement, and getting seen is the only way to do it!

If you are at a show or fair, tell people about AREtsy! Tell them to visit the other shops! If they are looking for a certain item and you know of a team member that sells that, then send them in that direction!

We want to help as many as possible! I know it is a slow process, but we want everyone to have as many opportunities as possible to succeed!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07746065877021279335noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3935614702743076744.post-5588414185196268902012-03-16T09:37:00.000-05:002012-03-16T09:37:08.469-05:00Happy St. Patricks Day
Today is brought to you by the color green, oh and AREtsy Artists!

Ad Sense by Google. If you are on blogger there is a widget called ad sense. This is a "we pay you for click through" type thing. They review your blog and must approve you, so no naughty naughty things on there, and then you can have the widget (or multiple) that they will stream relevant ads to these widgets. You can also have more than one.

Other stream widgets. There are other providers that do the same thing. Here is the Top Networks of those providers.

Selling Sponsorships. In this aspect I am referring to actual sponsorships that you write a post that is an advertisement and then list that the ad is sponsored by Company XYZ. Some people don't like these as they want to see what you have to say, not what your trying to sell people. This could result in loss of viewers if you do it too much.

Selling Blog Sponsorships. This one is when other bloggers pay you to be advertised on your site. Such as the way Lucky Pups does their sponsorships on a monthly basis. You can set your own pricing and you post about the sponsors through the month. This can also be people like Etsy stores, Cafe Press or Zazzle designers, or anyone that is willing to pay the fee. However be very careful to judge if you want that type of person advertising on your site. If your viewers click through to view your sponsors and find adult content when they wanted new dog bowls you might get people offended, fired (if they view at work) and loose viewers. You should always tell people that you reserve the right to refuse advertising.

There can also be different types of ads.

Text ads - "Check out my good friends over at Company/Blog ABC" and insert a link to go view them

Graphic ads - Use a button with an embedded link to send viewers to the desired location

Banner ads - These are graphic ads that are generally larger, and can have more than one link in them sometimes.

Selling your Services. This is something that you can do by sometimes guest posting for a fee or freelance writing for other publications. There are other ways to sell writing services, but as I am not a writer and haven't done this I don't know that I would be any good at suggesting options.

Now not all of these methods will be highly lucrative, but the more you post, the more followers you get, the more you work your blog, the more likely you are to make more money.

Keep in mind, if you post controversial things or if you are amusingly irreverent it is highly likely that there will be people that do not want to advertise on your blog, or that you will get turned down by an ad service. This is not a personal affront to you, but just means you can try other avenues for funding.

Good luck out there!
Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07746065877021279335noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3935614702743076744.post-23503040649020404202012-03-02T10:15:00.001-06:002012-03-02T10:15:21.063-06:00March Featured Seller - The Little Chick
I can recall back in the early 90's when my mother and I started our company that we had to pay for advertising in the newspaper, we put ads in magazines, we pounded the pavement talking to designers, and a plethora of other methods to get our name out in the community for our services.

It took about 6 months to really get enough clientele to break even and another 6-9 months to be making a good profit. This was all accomplished with countless 12 hour days and sleepless nights of solving design issues.

Now starting a company can be so very much different. You can file for your own company status on Legal Zoom for about $100. You can create a Facebook, Etsy, Twitter, CafePress, Zazzle, Tumblr, Blogger, Wordpress, or Stumble Upon page (as well as others) totally free. You can then almost sit back and watch it happen.

However, the best way to really make those pages become visible is to use them to your benefit. While I have never been a fan of social media I am beginning to understand the lower common factor in the media can help me tremendously.

When I started my Etsy store August 31, 2011 I thought this will be a fun side thing to do. Then the halloween season came and I had orders, so many I turned some away. It was quickly obvious to me that there was more to this than just a little hobby. Slowly but surely I started to create pages, Facebook was first which allowed me to have the benefit of friends that could see things that were going on. Then later I created a blog of my own, which has turned out to be so much FUN!!! If anything my kids will have this as a chronicle of our lives and the weird stuff that happens. Then came Twitter. 140 characters of sound bite glory!

You can put links to new posts on the blog, can link Facebook to it, can link up to your other sites as well. I honestly think Twitter could be the best starter gun to the entire process. I started by following all our team members and some of my pageant girls. Then I found other blog writers I loved on Twitter and followed them. I would reply to various tweets and figured out quickly that Twitter really does push social media on a second by second basis.

I know some of our members have a twitter accounts. I would suggest to all of you to explore this option. Most phones have a twitter application that you can use to keep your name in the minds of your customers. It also allows people to start seeing you less as a store and more as a person that they can get to know, which makes them want to buy. I don't make this stuff up there are articles and research that state that customers will tend to buy more from stores that they feel they "know" the people that work there.

So Tweet away, heck we even have a bird in our AREtsy logo, so maybe it was karma.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07746065877021279335noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3935614702743076744.post-34768352742629649922012-02-14T12:00:00.001-06:002012-02-14T12:00:28.953-06:00Happy Valentine's DayToday is a day that seems to be either a love or hate it kind of day. There are those people that love to buy gifts and mementos for their loved ones just as an additional reminder that they are loved. Then there are those that are very ambivalent about the day and call it Hallmark's creation.

I am a bit of both! Every year I buy something small and special for each of my daughters. I sneak into their rooms at some ungodly hour in the middle of the night and put the little treasures on their respective tables. Then in the morning I make then a big breakfast with eggs and sausage (or bacon), biscuits, juice or coffee... THE WORKS!! Then I send them off to school to have a day that started with love.

Of course for the last 10 years my boyfriend (same guy 10 years) has been out of town. This year in Vegas. When he returns we will likely go on a bit of a date and enjoy some time just the two of us. *happy face*

What the day is really about, in my opinion, is that through the hustle and bustle of the day to day grind sometimes we forget to tell those people we love how much they really mean to us.

So today I wanted to tell all my team members that I am glad you are here. That you are creative. That you share your little wonders with the world through a small venue called Etsy. That you are an Arkansan. Most importantly that I have the overwhelming pride and blessing to be one of your team leaders.

Thanks to all of you, and without sounding too weird, I love you!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07746065877021279335noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3935614702743076744.post-32184950465426835852012-02-08T12:40:00.001-06:002012-02-08T12:40:35.905-06:00Making your Blog Better! We have quite a few team members that blog, and in the process of starting my own blog I have read and learned a lot about blogging in general.

I am currently reading the eBook "Grow your Blog: Proven ways to add followers every single day". It is written by The Simple Dude and for the most part I can say it seems to be a decent educational tool for bloggers to read, and gives some tools for ways to progress your blog. It is a short eBook too, so give it a shot if you have a couple of hours.

I have also been turned on the Bloggers Blog of Note (BON). I think this featured blog listing is kind of like Etsy's featured seller. You go along in your little world and hope that someone notices, then things go haywire!

I have previously posted about the Ping-O-Matic feature that helps your blog come up in search engines, and that it can be a helpful tool to find your little corner of the vast internet.

I have also mentioned in facebook posts and other miscellaneous spaces about Arkansas Women Bloggers. There are a vast number of groups out there for bloggers that are geographically and demographically specific. These groups are great for helping to grow your own blog and get traffic to your various pages be it Facebook, Twitter, Etsy, or otherwise.

I think the additional information I want to add today, is the layout of blog pages, and what fancy features you have on your page.

There are widgets, and gadgets, and buttons and a massive array of things you can have on your site, and those things may or may not be helpful to you. Take a look at your blog page, do you have a bunch of stuff that really doesn't pertain to the way you want your blog to grow? If you are on Twitter, Pinterest, Facebook, or other sites do you have follow buttons? Do you have your various feeds on there too? Are those two things close together or far apart?

You can add almost anything you like to your blog, and those things are always personal choices, but the real questions you have to ask yourself (and I am asking them to myself as well) ...... What items do I want/need that will help promote myself and my internet adventure in the best possible ways?

Now let's go out there and do some blogging! I know I need to start with some rearranging and site review of my own personal blog.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07746065877021279335noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3935614702743076744.post-1190541195187488292012-02-06T09:20:00.002-06:002012-02-06T09:20:56.794-06:00New Members?!?!As most of you know we started working on a membership directory, which was a daunting task to undertake at the beginning with about 250 members there were a lot of messages to send out in order to make the necessary contact.

Well now we have gotten through that and only have to keep up with the newer members, but this morning there was a run on membership requests! I had to add FIVE! new members this morning alone! I love that people want to join our team! I truly hope that we can continually progress to make our team one of the best on Etsy with activities and events that help promote all of us!

As of right now our membership is at 292! We have a total of 113 listed in the directory! We really want to try to get as many people in the directory as possible, so if you know of anyone that is a member make sure they have sent in their information! Due to the leaders busy schedules we haven't gotten the blog updates finished yet, but they are in the process, so hang in there.

If you know of any craft shows, events, anything that might be fun for team members to attend or participate in, please let us know!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07746065877021279335noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3935614702743076744.post-68393642939589179562012-01-29T06:59:00.001-06:002012-01-29T07:00:09.981-06:00February Featured Seller - Best Loved Child
I make artistically painted children’s décor and play sets. My parents were ranchers in the wilds of the
mountain west but I gave up that life when in college I fell in love and
married a California beach boy. I have a
store of knowledge about cattle, farming and wildlife that is only useful now
when buying meat at Sam’s or drawing and painting my creations. I’m a wife to one, mom to six and
unbelievably 8 amazing kids call me
Grandma. 18 years ago my husband’s
company relocated all their operations to Little Rock and we relocated from Southern
California to beautiful Arkansas where people still ask me where my accent came
from. I’ve been lucky enough to be doing
the Etsy shop for the last 2 years. When
I lost my job, (I used to fire people for a living, Then I got fired) I decided
to go for it and have been fortunate to have a supportive husband.

<span style="color: black; font-family: "Tahoma","sans-serif";">What does handmade mean to you?

<span style="color: black; font-family: "Tahoma","sans-serif"; font-weight: normal;">Handmade is a unique
connection. The best way I know to express my love is to make you something. My Wrangler jeans were sewn by hand by an
unknown someone, but they are not “handmade”.
Unlike those jeans, the quilt my great
grandmother made and the mug I bought from a potter in Washington state, connect
me to their makers each time I view or use them. Though neither maker knew me, these
creations are expressions of love the maker had for someone and/or the love they
had for their craft. The handmade movement also represents the ultimate “job
creators”. When we make and sell, we
are crafting our own jobs as well as our art/craft and that needs to be
acknowledged, supported and celebrated.

<span style="color: black; font-family: "Tahoma","sans-serif";">Who has been most influential in your craft?

<span style="color: black; font-family: "Tahoma","sans-serif"; font-weight: normal;">My parents. They never imagined me to be an artist, but
taught me, by their example, that I could learn how to do anything.

<span style="color: black; font-family: "Tahoma","sans-serif";">When did you know you were an artist/maker?

<span style="color: black; font-family: "Tahoma","sans-serif"; font-weight: normal;">I always considered
myself a maker. Everyone I knew was a
maker. They made quilts, built houses, planted gardens, sewed clothing, created
jam and welded parts for the clothes dryer. When I was seven, I sewed a yellow cotton
dress with set in sheer sleeves, a fitted bodice and full skirt for my Barbie. It was hand sewn, by me, from a pattern of my
own invention. I was proud, but in my
family this was not considered remarkable. Becoming an artist took much longer,
mostly I think, because I was never exposed to any art education or any
artists. (Don’t get me started on the lack of art education in schools.) I kept
trying to learn to paint and draw (mostly self-taught) and was well into my
40’s before I started to dare think “I’m an artist”. The Etsy shop has helped
me validate that label. I loved hearing
my son tell someone recently “my Mom’s an artist”.

Here is the scenario so that others can avoid it as well.

I got a private message from a team member, who I am sure was a victim as well, that said something to the affect of, "some really nasty things are being said about you here (insert link) I can't believe what they said"

I am a pretty self deprecating person and love to laugh at my own insanity, so I go to the link. It asks me to log into twitter, now I am doing this on my phone so I don't think anything of it. I log in and it says sorry you can't do that.

Okay well I am on my phone must be the problem, oh well.

Five minutes later ALL my followers have been sent private messages with the same silly statement. DANG IT ALL! So be warned, and don't get click happy unless you know for sure what is up!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07746065877021279335noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3935614702743076744.post-67205483506010198362012-01-26T08:42:00.000-06:002012-01-26T08:42:18.974-06:00Sharing the Joy!We have some really amazing people in our team, and we have been doing featured sellers once a month in order to promote all of our team members to be more successful. We also are having a treasury contest, which we may do maybe every other month or so in order to be the featured seller. We have to have some type of prize, and I think that is a pretty good one!

We have Facebook and Twitter on top of this blog that we hope is keeping team members informed and up to date on a lot of things we and our team members are doing. I personally have followed all team members with Twitter, Liked all the Facebook pages, and followed all the blogs on blogger and Tumbrl. Each morning I try (TRY) to spend at least one hour reading any new blog entries, scanning the twitter feed, and looking at Facebook. I feel like a real geek during this time period, but it helps me stay informed about our team and the amazing things we are all doing.

Our leader Lybly has made her first quilt! It is lovely, see it here. Missy of the Graceful Little Honey Bee is doing a really neat thing with shampoo or I should say the avoidance of shampoo, plus she is expecting! The Twisted Purl is lamenting her lack of blogging, but she is twitterific for sure! We have so many amazing shops in our team, and I love keeping up with all of them, it really give me inspiration for the things we can feature and do as a team!

I have the February Featured Seller selected and her information has been forwarded, so we are excited about that, but she had a great idea! We need a team photographer that makes us all look younger and thinner! Cathryn, I have put the word out now we shall see what happens!

If you want to me March's Featured Seller post your treasury on the team discussion page (there is a thread for the contest) and we will be selecting the winner on the 30th.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07746065877021279335noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3935614702743076744.post-54818438768750684662012-01-20T14:51:00.001-06:002012-01-20T14:51:36.545-06:00Do you Blog? You need to know this!It hasn't been very long that I have been aiding in writing the blog for our fantastic team. However I never had one of my own, until this week! So here I spent more time that I expected designing and redesigning the silly thing over the past few days. That was a learning experience in it's own right!

After my first post I was so excited I of course told various friends who blog, and one gave me insight which was news to me. You should always "ping" your blog after new posts in order to bring your blog higher in the search results of a search engine. Now I did a little research to learn what this meant and realized that there are a lot of ways to go about doing this. There is the super computer savvy method which involves uploading code to your blog and things which I have no concept of.

However the super fast way is to use a pinging service. The one I was turned on to was www.pingomatic.com which made me think of a pinball machine. I am sure there is some truth to that analogy as well.

Here is the process:

Step One: Go to www.pingomatic.com you will see a data information page like below.

Step Two: Enter your Blog name and the web page address into the form as shown. The RSS is if you have a feed link to include as well. I do not believe any team members have this yet, but you never know!

Step Three: Next to Common Services in parenthesis is "Check All" click that, and then click each box under Specialized Services. Your entries should look like the photo below.

Step Four: Click "Send Pings >>"

You're done! As I said this is not the only method for achieving this goal, but so far it is the fastest and easiest I have found. If there are other services that you know of, please share so we can forward that information on the the group as well.

This should help bring your blog postings higher in search engine results and as you blog more and ping more you will find more visitors and followers.

Happy Blogging!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07746065877021279335noreply@blogger.com1
